The company makes wooden plaques and acrylic awards mostly for government agencies such as the Department of Homeland Security and all its sub-agencies and, the Department of Transportation and all its sub-agencies. So, B&A Metal Graphics is responsible for creating designs, making custom inscriptions, and putting the awards together.

Responsibilities

In a small business, it is difficult to create a job position with specific and narrowed-down tasks. All employees need to work together for mutual benefit. From my perspective, my internship experience was an advantage. In four months, I could experience a little bit of everything related to business. I did basic office work, such as filing and organizing invoices, bills, and other documents. I sent out invoices to our customers and paid bills. Sometimes, I answered phone calls and emails with customer inquiries. I also worked in the production area, where I learned how to make plaques and engrave some things with a laser-engraving machine. And, I packed and shipped finished products using FedEx, UPS, or USPS.

Experiences

The most fun for me was working in the production area. Through observations, YouTube tutorials, and training from my supervisor and coworkers, I learned features of CorelDraw and Adobe In-Design. Those are programs that we use to type the information that goes on plaques, and sometimes for designing a logo or image. I also learned how pieces of metal are combined to create different layers of colors and how they are attached to a piece of wood. We also use this software to engrave wood, glass, acrylic materials, and tumblers. The fun part of working in production was that I could take some items home. For example, finding the right settings for engraving may require a trial-error method. Often the first engraved item is not correct, so I would put my name on it, and take home, for example, a tumbler, even if it is not perfect. I have also made some gifts for my family and friends.

Opportunities

Small businesses have a limited opportunity to climb the corporate ladder for higher positions with better salaries. In a small business, it is best to come up with ideas for marketing, improving the product, or improving efficiency in processes. Each employee can contribute to the decision-making process as long as their idea is strong. Then the company can evaluate the savings or increased revenue and decide if it can share profits with employees or invest it in the business. In my experience, I found how to engrave one of the whisky bottles. Potentially, the company could add this service to its portfolio, begin marketing it to customers, and ultimately increase sales and revenues. For the contribution, the company may give a bonus or commission if the idea brings a one-time purchase or could increase the paycheck if it brings constant revenue.

I found the type of job that genuinely interests me, which gives me motivation to come to work and makes my days go easy and less stressful. As I got closer to the end of the internship, I was offered a full-time job by the company. I think this is something that every intern would like to achieve from their internship, but not everyone does. I am sure people have bad internship experiences, and they look for another job after the program is over. I am excited to work for B&A Metal Graphics from January of next year and continue to grow and learn more about this unique industry.

Upon my arrival, I identified areas for enhancement in the studio’s layout. I created new floor plans and a method for organizations to optimize space and improve the overall flow. Repairing and fortifying damaged racks was another priority, ensuring durability and a polished appearance in line with our visual merchandising strategy.

The pursuit of a consistent aesthetic was a challenge met with precision. Implementing uniform hangers and meticulously aligning racks were deliberate efforts to create an inviting retail environment that resonates with our diverse student body.

Understanding our student demographic was crucial. Beyond merely offering clothing, curating a collection that aligns with Stevenson students’ unique styles became a focal point. This approach involved careful selection and presentation of quality pieces that cater to their professional needs.

Navigating the complexities of fashion merchandising, I addressed challenges such as re-tagging items and streamlining inventory checks. Each issue was met with attention to detail, collaboration, and the implementation of effective inventory management systems.

Looking ahead, the goal is to sustain and build upon the progress achieved. This involves ongoing refinement of displays, creative initiatives like up-cycling, and a continual commitment to enhancing the overall student experience at the SUccess Studio. I am genuinely thrilled about extending my contributions to the continued growth and impact of the Stevenson SUccess Studio.

A heartfelt thank you extends to the 老王论坛 community, with special gratitude to Dr. Schiller. Serving as both my student advisor and supervisor for this internship, Dr. Schiller’s guidance has been invaluable. I appreciate the mentorship and insights that have enriched my experience.

RSM is a powerhouse of collaborative innovation for middle market companies looking to capture a competitive edge. RSM’s team brings innovative ideas and tools to each client relationship, along with proven methodologies and technologies. During my internship at RSM, I experienced the power of being understood; RSM’s promise to their clients and people that when they work with RSM, they are working with professionals who will take the time to truly understand them, who will bring tailored ideas and insight to their environment, and who are committed to helping them make con铿乨ent decisions about their future.

My internship at RSM strengthened my understanding of tax accounting, and I had several opportunities to apply what I learned at Stevenson. I not only got to apply concepts that I had learned in my tax classes at Stevenson, but I also had the opportunity to apply concepts and skills that I learned in other classes, like management, marketing, and communication.

Each week at RSM was full of unique and valuable experiences. My internship was not just preparing tax returns or working on client work. I had the opportunity to work on multiple projects in addition to client work and meetings. I was able to leverage my communication skills and my knowledge from various business and economics courses to assist my team in winning RSM’s bottom line simulation, which gives interns insight into the role of management.

Additionally, I leveraged the skills I learned in communication courses and marketing to help my team win RSM’s comprehensive capstone, a team project where interns select a client of RSM and present suggested improvements to improve the client’s business.

I also had the opportunity to participate in RSM’s Power of Love, an in-office charity event committed to raising funds for charitable organizations local to Baltimore. In addition to participating in RSM鈥檚 Power of Love, I had the opportunity to volunteer at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore for a day and give back to the local community in which RSM operates. These experiences emphasized the importance of working for an employer who goes above and beyond to serve their community.

I am grateful that 老王论坛 pushes students to gain meaningful and relevant work experience before graduating. During my internship, I began developing my technical skills as a future CPA, and it introduced me to the softer skills essential to being a successful professional in any scenario. Furthermore, I am excited to be interning with RSM this busy season, and I will start with RSM full-time after graduation as an associate.

One of my main responsibilities involved handling phone calls at the help desk, where I used my troubleshooting and communication skills to help solve client issues. I also assisted with managing the web help desk, which involved responding to clients and updating tickets to ensure effective communication between the support team and our clients.

During day-to-day operations, I spent time assisting professors with classroom technology issues. These types of tickets usually involved issues with projectors, network connectivity, accounts, and more. I enjoyed going out to work on these issues because it gave me a chance to meet people around the university.

In addition, this work gave me a chance to improve my customer service skills and troubleshooting abilities. During my shifts, I would visit various printers throughout the campuses for servicing and troubleshooting. This hands-on experience gave me a chance to diagnose issues on my own and become familiar with these different pieces of hardware.

Later in my internship experience, I became qualified to train other student technicians. Guiding the new trainees through the training curriculum helped reinforce my own knowledge and boost team morale by working together efficiently to solve issues. Additionally, I assisted with managerial duties, which helped me strengthen my leadership and communication skills. These duties also gave me the opportunity to witness the information technology department’s inner workings.

Overall, my internship experience was fascinating and rewarding. It was a terrific opportunity for me to gain hands-on experience and work in customer service. Being a part of the Office of Information Technology team and making contributions to the university鈥檚 support services was both enjoyable and gratifying. Now that this experience is nearing completion, I am more prepared and excited for the start of my career in Cybersecurity.

After working in the Admissions Department as a leader in the Ambassador Program, I asked for the opportunity to complete an internship and dive deeper into the daily life of an admissions counselor. The staff have been incredible resources throughout this whole process, and I am so grateful to have experienced so much over the course of a few months!

During daily office shifts, I was able to shadow the event planning process of Local Preview Nights, which are dinners that are held in each counselor鈥檚 territory that allow prospective students to learn more about Stevenson. It was interesting to learn about the planning process of these events and very rewarding to attend and establish connections with prospective families!

Completing my internship during the Fall semester allowed me to play a major role in the staff鈥檚 travel season, where I attended many college fairs over the span of a few months in different territories. This broadened my experience of smaller local fairs at high schools and college fairs at a national level. I attended the National Association for College Admissions Counseling (NACAC) College Fairs in Baltimore and Philadelphia where hundreds of colleges tabled together to talk to prospective families and answer questions about the college search process. These were amazing events to attend, and I gained so much knowledge on how to connect with students and answer university related questions.

In addition to travel season, I have been able to spend time in the office training on daily counselor tasks, inventory management for travel and acceptance supplies, scholarship interviews, and so much more! This internship has solidified my passion for higher education and helping students in the college search process. I have enjoyed every learning experience throughout this semester, and finally feel confident in my decision to pursue admissions after graduation!

Concordia Properties in Pikesville, MD is a large company that manages several apartment complexes across the country, and I had the pleasure of working at Milbrook Apartments. Under this position, I was responsible for marketing company specials, calling prospective tenants, scheduling tour appointments, running credit and background checks, and preparing the final paperwork for new tenants.

This internship truly strengthened my social and communication skills. Classroom settings teach students about acting in an ethical and civil manner when dealing with clients. The downside of classes is that professors teach based on theory; such as making eye contact, firm handshakes, speaking in a polite manner, etc.

Internships such as the one I took part in for example, allows people to deal directly with others face-to-face. There are many books that have been written about sales and how to market yourself when you are trying to sell something. In my case, this internship helped me learn the type of salesperson I am and in what areas I could improve on. With what I have learned from this internship, I can confidently say that I am better prepared for the real estate industry. This experience allowed me to strengthen my social
skills and how to handle difficult situations, which is important to know in this industry.

Leasing in general allows an insight into the residential side of the industry and how to deal
with people on a day-to-day basis. Concordia Properties is a good company to have had an internship experience with and their teachings will help in my future career.

Atradius specializes in trade credit insurance, surety, and debt collections. We ensure you get paid for goods and services you supply within the United States and abroad. We provide services in more than 50 countries and have more than 3,000 employees in our multinational staff.

Initially, I was seeking out an internship to fulfill an internship requirement for school and to get a start in developing my Human Resources skills. It has turned into much more than that. This internship has provided me with the opportunity to not only grow my skills but also become more comfortable as a professional in the workplace and expand my knowledge of how trade credit insurance works. I have gained a lot of knowledge on benefits, wellness in the workplace, and organizational operations.

I am primarily responsible for curating the Wellness Program for the company. This includes making employees aware of local wellness events, scheduling webinars, scheduling fitness classes such as yoga or Tai Chi, and more. I help with scheduling in preparation for all local training initiatives, assist the HR Generalist in facilitating employee events and committee meetings, and assist the Human Resources Department with other related projects as assigned. I often organize and send out reminders for upcoming events and wellness initiatives. I also curate and update a 鈥渨ellness wall鈥 with current event times and dates.

There are many classes I have taken at Stevenson that have provided me with the knowledge necessary for my internship. These classes include Employee Compensation and Benefits, Employee Training and Development, Human Resource Management, International Human Resource Management, Employment Law, and more. These classes have taught me the basics of Human Resources and provided me with a baseline to work from in this internship.

This internship has shown me how much more I still can learn in the Human Resources field. My classes have set me up with terms and definitions, while the internship is teaching me application and knowledge I never would have thought I would learn.

My job as the cybersecurity intern was to ensure that all the communications developed on the application are secure. All personal information such as name, address, location, base of operations, and rank, will be inaccessible by any random user surfing the web.

Some programs that I learned about include Lucid Chart, Gitlab, OpenVPN, AWS cloud infrastructure, AWS Cognito, Docker, STIG check viewer, PostgreSQL, and Ubuntu Linux.

I have learned useful knowledge and abilities in a variety of fields much more successfully through hands-on experiences than through standard classroom instruction alone. I have developed my ability to construct thorough network diagrams through engaging projects, ensuring seamless interactions between devices and processes when developing apps.

The experience I gained over this internship has helped me see the real-world applications of the theories and figures I learn in the classroom. Also, actively working on instances, troubleshooting, and learning secure coding techniques have increased my level of knowledge and communication.

My supervisor, mentor, and various other individuals at the company were more than eager to help guide me in the right direction. My exposure to the real world has given me essential insight into security standards, vulnerability management, and the agile development process. This hands-on approach has given me a peek into what one path of my career could look like, and it was a great experience overall.

As described on their website, Serious is “a user-friendly grip and lighting rental house鈥 We are standing by, awaiting your call to go on location, work hard, and have some fun.”

I sought this internship because of my brief but helpful experiences with the company and its very positive reputation with local filmmakers. My typical day involves pulling/loading/unloading orders, checking equipment function, doing inventory on the trucks, and learning something new everyday!

The experience at Stevenson that has helped my most at Serious is my part-time employment as a School of Design Studio Assistant. That job pulls on knowledge learned in classes about grip/electric/camera equipment and compounds it with the function of a rental house. Still, on-set experiences in production-based classes have been incredibly helpful, too.

This internship, and all the things that led me to it, has taught me just how vital collaboration is in this industry. On set, that is a given, but it applies in every other part of it too. If not for the knowledge and opportunities that my upperclassmen shared with me, I would have never have gotten to where I am. Within the internship, I do most of my learning by asking for help from other employees of Serious. Everyone who has taken the time to share knowledge with me or collaborated with me has been critical to my success at this internship and in this industry. My advice for anyone looking for film-based internships is to never be afraid to ask for help.
